Spilled!Spilled!
A short, nice cleaning game that can provide some nice relaxation time. Easy to beat and get all the achievements as well, and for a good price! That being said, is a bit morally questionable to sink an entire ship into the ocean, even if they're the bad guys, lmao

Spilled is a very short cute game by a solo developer who lives in a boat. Your job is to use your little boat to clean up spilled oil and capture other litter in the water. Once you're filled to capacity, you can recycle your oil and litter at a recycling plant. With the money obtained you can upgrade to receive a wider scoop, more speed or more storage space. This is a very chill, calm game which is satisfying to play. Who doesn't enjoy making the water cleaner for the marine life in it? You also rescue 16 animals along the way. There is even a big 'boss' to beat at the end. Graphics are basic but cute and colourful. I particularly liked the water changing colour and marine life appearing! Music was jaunty and not overwhelming. Controls are WASD, but you can take your time and there are no speed tests. The game is designed to be relaxing and undemanding. Money from this game goes to WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation). So do your bit for the planet! I'm hoping that the dev adds more levels in the future from the money of this game. One hour was too short and just didn't whet my appetite! I wouldn't be surprised if a bigger developer copies this game as it is a popular concept. Great effort for a new dev! Makes me want to run out and buy a boat of my own and do this!! Who will join me? 8/10

Went from enjoying the relaxing boatride to feeling thoroughly annoyed by how many bottles are floating around. So pretty realistic I’d say. All together a satisfying, fun and relaxing little game. Definitely worth the money.

$6 for 74 minutes of game play is steep. like really steep. My general philosophy is 1 hour of game play per dollar will make the game worth it to me. This was very far from meeting that criteria. With that being said, I am down with supporting the dev and their interesting story, and I'm hopeful for updates in the future. It's clunky for sure. and it definitely screams "first game" energy. But if you're willing to look past that, its a cute little game and I was in desperate need of a distraction today. this provided me with an hour of distraction.

I thought I was in for a laid-back, cozy cleanup game, and for the most part, it is. There’s something weirdly satisfying about gliding around, scooping up oil spills, and watching the water go from “oh no” to “ah, much better.” It scratches that same itch as power-washing videos or tidying up in a game when your real-life laundry is... not folded.

Short, sweet, relaxing and visually pleasing. I only wish it was a little longer! Lovely game.

I've been looking forward to this since it was first announced and played the demo when that was put out but I'm really disappointed now that I've played the whole game. I like the game but I can't recommend it, it's just far too short and simple even for such a low price. It's a very pretty game with okay gameplay but it's extremely short, if you've played the demo you've basically played the whole game. I completed it in 56 minutes getting all 13 achievements, I also wrote half of this review while playing the game which made my playtime a higher than it really was by probably ~10 minutes. The game has very strong messaging about pollution and its impact on nature but the 'ending' really threw me off and I don't understand why it ends the way it does. It really conflicts with the rest of the game and its message in a way that it just doesn't make sense for the developer to have added it. I think it would have been better if it began and finished with just cleaning oil. Spoilers for the final level if you care; In the final level you use the water cannon to sink a big oil tanker - which, for a game with the kind of environmental messaging that this has, seems like a very strange change of pacing and really gives off mixed messages. The whole game is about cleaning up the rivers and oceans and saving nature and stuff but then you go and commit literal eco-terrorism, therefore polluting the waters even more than before. And after that you just go home and sleep like nothing happened. The gameplay is incredibly basic but it is still satisfying and enjoyable, at least for most of the game. It almost entirely consists of driving your little boat around sucking up oil spills in the water which you then deposit at a bigger boat, that rewards you with coins which you can spend on one of three upgrades; faster movement speed, wider sucker/collector and bigger oil capacity. Clearing a certain percentage of the oil spills on each level unlocks the path to the next level and each level has an animal which act purely as collectables. There are 8 levels and most of them introduce something new for you to do. The first thing added is collecting plastic and stuff from the water which you do by pushing the collector into it and taking it to the deposit boat. Three of the levels also have a 'quest' where you have to use this collector to push an object a certain spot, like taking a beachball to another boat. Next you get a water cannon on the front of your boat which you use to blast oil off the rocks/beaches, you have to then use this same mechanic to put out fires, and again in the final areas to... make snow? I don't know really understand that last one. You also get a magnet crane which allows you to pick up barrels from the river bed, which you can deposit for a coin reward. These new 'abilities' add just enough to the gameplay to make it more fun as you progress but you are still cleaning up more and more oil on every level so it doesn't change anything in any significant way. It's a bit too much on the final level, there's significantly more stuff to clean than in any of the previous levels and it just becomes tedious at that point.

Oh, the irony of wasting electricity to play a game about saving the environment!

The game is too shot (finished it in 45 minutes). What annoyed me the most were the controls: I don't understand why people create these unintuitive vehicular movement. I did change the controls in the settings, but there are cases where controls are unintuitive: for example, when trying to pick up a barrel, I constantly adjust my boat position, but I only want to rotate it a little bit or move it a little bit forward/backwards. When pressing on S to go backwards, the boat rotation controls changes: D rotates the boat to the left and A to the right. When S is released, the rotation controls also resets to forward movement: D rotates the boat to the right and A to the left. But it shouldn't work like that: the rotation controls should be stuck to the last forward/backwards movement. So if I press S for a little bit, then release, I expect D to keep turning the boat to the left. But it doesn't, because when I release S, D starts turning the boat to the right.

Spilled isn’t a complicated game, or a difficult one. You can’t really even lose when you play it. But what it does provide is a nice escape from sweaty, competitive, and emotionally charged games with a cozy, pleasant experience that makes you feel like you’re doing something good. Abbreviated Review: https://youtu.be/9ratLf0SXzQ

Sea Cleaner

The premise of Spilled is straightforward. You wake up in the role of a small boat in an oceanside region that has been heavily polluted, and your task is to clean it up. Thankfully, this boat is apparently purpose-built to do such things, and as you putter around the starting area, the scoop on the front of your ship will suck up oil floating on the surface of the water. Once you’ve filled the tank visible on the back of your boat, you can take it to a recycling ship to deposit it and receive compensation that you can immediately use for upgrades. These upgrades will make your ship faster, capable of holding more oil, and equipping it with a larger scoop to more effectively slurp up that oil. When you’ve completely cleared the starting area and rescued the various animals trapped in it, you’ll remove a barrier to a new area to start the whole process over. As you progress through the eight zones, you’ll also unlock more functions for your ship. The water cannon allows you to spray oil off the beach to be collected, as well as putting out fires on the shore. You’ll also gain a dredging magnet to pick up barrels from under the surface. As you upgrade your front scoop, it gains little arms on the edge to help you with the floating debris that you’ll also need to clean up to reveal the pristine ecosystem under the waves.

A Clean Sea

Removing the oil and garbage from each of the zones slowly reveals sea creatures and vibrant reefs, making the process immediately rewarding as you go. The pixel art design of the world makes the transition from a dreary, spoiled environment to a beautiful, colorful one, appealing to behold. And it’s all wrapped in a cozy blanket of relaxing music to reinforce the pleasant experience. The only problem with all of this is that you can easily knock the whole game out in an hour. It doesn’t really have any built-in replayability, so the only thing you can do is just start the whole thing over (which isn’t a bad thing). However, I think the game would benefit from having some gameplay after you reach the end. Even something as simple as a time attack mode for the whole game or certain regions, or some kind of scoreboard to compare how fast you are at cleaning each zone. The gameplay mechanics are satisfying to use, and it seems like it would be enjoyable to have larger (perhaps procedurally generated) areas to clean up as well. When I think of something like PowerWash Simulator, a game that has a similar cathartic “cleaning” design with no failure state, it makes me feel like there’s just as much potential here for a game that could entertain for many hours. Yet, for only six dollars – and including a small sea life charity donation – there’s not much to complain about. Wanting more of what is available is generally a pretty good problem to have for a game. Hopefully, the success it has seen will motivate the developer to build more content as DLC. I’d gladly pay another six dollars to continue to revitalize ocean environments. Especially if it also continues to benefit the real sea life of the world.

----------------------- Disclaimer: I believe in a game being GOOD or NOT GOOD. Not "It's good for the money" or "buy it if it's on sale" or "It has the POTENTIAL to be a good game" or "It's EA so it might be good eventually" No. IS IT A GOOD GAME at the time that you invested your time and energy into it, was it GOOD compared to OTHER good games? That's what I go by. If a developer posts shovelware, but it's only $.50... it's still shovelware. -------------------------- Once again I lose faith in the Steam reviews system. This isn't a good game. It's an hour log if you absolutely do EVERYTHING. Literally.. one hour for 100% completion for everything... I don't care if it's $1.00... a game that takes an hour to complete isn't a good game, it's a distraction at best. This isn't a "it's a good game IF" or "It might be a good game someday" system of reviews. IS IT A GOOD GAME? It's an hour long. No. Plus the developer posted this on Steam.. where you can refund a game you've played for less than 2 hours, which isn't very bright on multiple levels.

Took about an hour to complete the game my issue is with the control as they are wonky so it was not very relaxing and even though it says Xbox controller compatible again the controls are reversed and you can not change them. Felt like I was fighting the game with the controls.

This is one of those 'kind of' recommendations. If you look at the store page and think "Yeah, I'm interested", then grab it. It's short, it's cheap - you'll get an hour out of it. It's a fair price for the time you'll get out of it. The game is simply you sailing a boat and cleaning up spills and bottles. The art is gorgeous, the sounds are nice, and the gameplay keeps you interested enough while you are playing. The game isn't long enough to outstay its welcome. There is no story, no characters, nothing complex - just you and your controller.

It is fun but way too short, i expected 48 levels, not 8, At higher levels it could be challenging. Potential is there for at least 50 levels of increased difficulty

I support a Solo IndieDev whenever it's possible, especially on their first project. The game is short, but nice. (If UBI or EA made this, it would be 10 hours, but 90% would be filler content.) Some people complain about the length of the game and it "not being worth" FIVE bucks, while probably paying 7-10 bucks for a coffee. And to the people who refunded a game which also donates to charity: i hope your pillow is always a little bit too warm.

You play as an Eco-Terrorist who stops oil spill at the root cause - by sinking BP Oil Tankers and killing their captain. This game is considered a fantasy because you succeed and the environment is now beautiful forever.
