When this was released originally I was a virgin, now that the remaster is out a lot has changed, still a virgin but the game improvements are 10/10! Feels like a brand new game and 10x better than Skyrim.

With the amount of times I paid for Skyrim, I should have gotten this game for free. Either way, I'm ROCK HARD right now.

They stay so true to the original game that even the sudden FPS drops when transitioning to a new location are faithfully recreated.

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Adoring Fans sprinting at Mach 5 toward the Imperial City. That’s the sound of Cliff Racers screaming in distant, unrelated provinces out of pure jealousy. That’s the sound of my GPU weeping, because I’m about to crank those graphics settings until the guards can see the guilt in my soul before I steal the sweetroll.
I will once again walk backwards up mountains, clip through reality with 37 paintbrushes, and become the Champion of Cyrodiil while naked and heavily diseased. I will murder Rufio for the millionth time just to hear Lucien Lachance whisper sweet nothings in my ear. I will close Oblivion gates not because I have to, but because I CAN.
Bethesda could retexture a mudcrab and I'd pay £100. But this? This is art. This is culture. This is the game that raised me, broke me, and taught me that if a man in a funny robe tells you you’re the chosen one, you just roll with it.
I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Praise Talos. HAIL SITHIS. LONG LIVE CYRODIIL.

Don't get this for steam deck. Despite verified status it is nearly unplayable. You have to lower the settings to the point of looking worse than 2006 oblivion and it still runs very poorly.

The day this game released in 2004 I went to Gamestop with my friend and pirated his copy before he could install it. In the last twenty years I've pirated it several other times on several other computer systems.
Congratulations Todd! It took you two decades but I finally bought the horse armor DLC.

If you needed to know anything about the judgement of Bethesda this is all you needed to know. These idiots remastered Oblivion, the worst Elder Scrolls game, instead of Morrowind. Imagine being the idiot that dropped the ball this badly. Whatever, its still better than Fallout 4 i'm sure.

EDIT: It's available on Gamepass DO NOT PURCHASE ON STEAM! That way you get unlimited time to try it out without spending $49.99, and for God's sake DO NOT GET THE DELUX VERSION, the regular version has all the meaty DLCs included.
This is a Beta right now, Bethesda is banking on impulsivity to drive sales of this product.
The beginning of this game occurs in an environment which requires significantly less computational power to run at a respectable framerate compared to the outdoor sections. However, since character creation and many of the fundamental gameplay decisions which will shape an entire playthrough are made during this opening sequence, it is highly likely that many individuals will spend more than 2 hours (the official time constraint for unconditional refund) before exiting to the outdoor world (the famous Bethesda "step out moment"). This is when many will see extreme variations in framerate, and graphical artifacting due to the anti-aliasing techniques utilized by Unreal Engine 5 (the engine this remake uses).
As of the posting of this in-progress technical assessment, I have only played a little over an hour. The following are my immediate observations:
The game is unplayable on ultra without DLSS and Frame-Gen enabled. I have an RTX 4090, i9 13900K and 64 Gbs of RAM.
Even with my setup, without DLSS, game rate will rarely rose above 40 FPS. I also gave AMD's AI Anti-aliasing method a try, the result was extreme blurring and slightly greater than 50 FPS. Regardless, the FPS is highly variable.
Enabling DLSS brings with it a bunch of jarring visual bugs, which will pull you out of the experience.
*You get blatant ghosting, especially around the edges of your characters silhouette as you pivot the camera
around them (if your-opting for a 3rd person perspective).
*The implementation of Screen-Space Reflections is horrendous, especially when it comes to rendering water.
*Graphical adjustment options are minimalistic. Descriptions regarding the extent to which each option will affect the overall visual style and it's expected impact on performance is extremely vague.
This is a small snapshot of my brief time with the game (I rushed it because I played the original, and I wanted to inform prospective purchasers about what they can suspect.) In order to do a full benchmark with statistical analysis will take about a day, but my knee-jerk reaction is:
Don't buy it just yet, there's a great product here, but it's mired with technical difficulties (if they mellow out as my playthrough continues, I'll update this review.
If you are going to buy, make sure you keep an eye on the clock and rush the intro, so you get a better experience of what the game will play like after the initial level.

Oblivion
Skyrim
Skyrim Legendary Edition
Skyrim Special Edition
Skyrim on Switch
Skyrim VR
and Skyrim Anniversary Edition
Check out their latest title Oblivion: Remastered. An Epic story retold with new graphics and some slight character changes and voice overs. All the same bugs and AI quirks from your childhood. All the same badass story telling and gameplay. Highly recommended if you have a pulse and slightly lowered self respect allowing you to buy re-released games over and over.
Hope they do Morrowind next. please...

Let's take a quiet moment for those who aren’t here to revisit Cyrodiil with us. Whether they wandered into the Shivering Isles or took one last pilgrimage to Cloud Ruler Temple, their stories are woven into our own journeys through the game.
Here’s to them, and to the memories—may they be eternal as the White-Gold Tower. 💫🕊️
