It's the outline of a game. - - - - - - - -
Not an actual game. Some early access games feel like a 3/rd of a full product, this feels like a blueprint or alpha of a demo. If the devs release the game with anything close to this level of content then it'll be quickly forgotten. The core mechanics, gameplay, visuals, etc. Are all fine.
But if the devs are willing to release this in early access with this level of content. Maybe that also suggests a trend in the levels of content they are fine with? And the full version might be very, very, very, light on overall content.
That's why i'm giving this a negative. Not because the "play" of this is a negative score. But because the gesture of content on display, is poor. And i can't reward that in this very competitive genre.
Also, the roadmap suggests a bunch of very small content changes as "sales pitches" for early access. Also a bad gesture of content. They are going to need to add SUBSTANTIAL content to make this game a competitor in this space. Literally thirty times more than what's in early access. In all directions.

Look at the game time for me, and game time for most reviews - positives has ~1 hour, I have nearly 10 hours. And you will discover how bad it is only by playing more than 2-3 hours.
Hordes of Hunger is simply a badly designed game, not bad game to play, but badly designed. It's fun to play, but it's annoying and bugged.
- Camera. It works very badly and is very irritating on higher difficulty levels, where you can get stuck on a rock on many maps and suddenly get punched by 80% health.
- The game won't tell you that you will lose all keys (even 15) when you want to leave the game prematurely, before completing the entire map. The game says that you only lose them ONLY in case of death. I did not died, I left earlier through the portal, but I lost the keys anyway.
- Macabre grind. In 10 hours of play I only unlocked 2 blue weapons, and there are more tiers. Sometimes for 2 hours I didn't receive any part to create new weapons. Chest? Feathers. Chest? Skills that I can't use or unlock anyway. Chest? Keys, but I already have 20 of them.
- Very poor game content. You save NPCs to the city just to be able to talk to them. The game offers nothing except fighting and poor character development.
- Bugs, often the point I have to complete fell under the map, which forced me to lose all progress on the map, along with the keys that I will lose anyway because I've to restart the map.
- No description of how to improve and unlock new skills, I didn't find the function responsible for it. I don't know if it's a bug or what. So I was playing mostly using the same skills all the time.
- Censorship and absurd responses from publishers. Demo is based on an old and even more bugged version. Blaming development and bug fixes on feedback, instead of playing their own game and drawing conclusions. Two of my comments about the game from the discussion were removed despite proper feedback.
- The solutions are incredibly stupid. You have food? You can't remove this food, change it, reroll it, choose what you want to use in the fight. You have to enter the fight, get hit a lot of times to use this food and only then can you return to the camp to change this food to another. Feedback! FEEDBACK! No. It's your job, dear idiot-authors, to play your game and notice such obvious things and change them before release. You are not playing your own game.
Sadly, maybe one day it will be a good game. Right now it certainly isn't. First of all, the authors laugh in your face when you have to save a donkey in a quest, with whom you can then talk in the city, receiving dialogues from him in the form of three dots. And that's it. Nothing more. An empty game containing only a fairly pleasant combat model. Nothing more.
// Edit:
Looks like developer don't know what opinion means.
Sad.
And another reason why I should uphold my negative and not return to the game. People are toxic if you give them anonymity. Someone considered the position that you don't play your own game and you pass on the development of the game to paid testers - buyers - offensive and aggressive? Well, if you support it and therefore remove such comment and statement about your game only proves that your game does not deserve positive ratings.

I've already finished the game :) Or should I say, I've experienced everything this game has to offer - yes, in less than 5 hours.
Players who gave this game positive reviews probably only played for 2-3 hours at most. If you continue playing, you'll discover that starting from Chapter 2, every final boss is the same - oh wait, except for the final level, which reuses the boss from the first chapter.
What's worse, when you reach the final level, you'll find yourself stuck in an endless loop. After defeating the boss, the level progress bar just resets. I suspect this is because the game was released before it was properly completed. I understand it's still in Early Access, but releasing a game with so little content is both irresponsible and unethical.
In short, this is a game with some innovative ideas, but the development team's attitude is downright terrible. I hope players who read this review will hold off on purchasing it for now.

In it's current state I can not recommend this game for the price.
The levels all feel the same with the same enemies. You do 3-6 "missions" (waves with objectives) per run before fighting a some boss with high damage and less health than the levels biggest monsters. More than half the time you will get the mission "Survive the onslaught" -'Survive untill (dev typo) the horde retreats, which is a game mode that lasts fooooorrreever. Any run with 2 survive the onslaught missions in a row instantly feels like a long run-out slog.
Exploding dogs with less than a second to react to them running up and exploding. As well as Artillery dudes that will spawn and shoot you point blank, the red ring doesn't even show up on the ground you get hit so fast.
A very flawed parry mechanic that will get you often get you hit as you are coming out of the parry animation, there's a few frames where you stuck recovering back to normal stance where you can't move or dodge, but enemies can hit you.
But, the cheap enemies hitting you don't even matter, it just feels bad and causes unnecessary stress.
Healing is plentiful and if you run out you can pick up healing skills. I beat every level of the game and survived Rage for 2-hours / 5 guardian cycles without ever getting close to dying.
You've really got to be flubbing and picking every wrong skill, and never dodging or side-stepping to die in a run of this game in it's current state.
The voice lines are insanely repetitive. Get ready to hear the same 4 voice lines talking about some inane "song" every single time you level or interact with something in a run. The voice line for hitting shielded enemies with light attacks was so awful they've already an option to disable it. Now they need an option to disable the characters voice entirely during runs.

Game is completely unplayable after verifying files and multiple reinstallations. All of the publisher logo's appear normally, but once the devs are handed control the game automatically resizes to some made up resolution like 3669x2369 or something goofy like that. This results in the game opening so large that only the top left corner appears on your primary monitor and it takes up 3/4 of your second monitor too. When you try to open settings you'll also notice that your mouse cursor is wildly off center you also can't click any of the arrows next to the settings to adjust anything. Now to be frank you see this problem all the time in rookie devs and it's not the biggest issue (except not letting you click on settings like what?), but the most egregious rookie mistake is including bindings to let you navigate through menus, but not including a binding to let me AJDUST THE DAMN SETTING!! are you kidding?!?! all of this nonsense would be resolved if i could change the game resolution or change it to borderless, but NO the devs very carefully designed the bindings to let you navigate to the resolution settings but you cant use left and right arrow keys or enter or anything to actually adjust any settings. You have until the end of my refund window to get your shit together or i am refunding and the review stays negative no matter what changes you make.

You'll be done with the game in 4-5 hours, there's a total of two boss types, power discrepancy is huge (some are poop, some completely trivialise the game-play), you might finish the game before you've even unlocked more than one additional weapon, you might finish the game without even dying once, there's additional progress systems (increase base stats through currency, unlock even more powers etc. etc.) that you will never really use/need to use because you'll be done with the game before any sort of difficulty ramp kicks in (is there any? I can't recall)
Needs more content such as difficulty increase, more bosses, anything that adds replayability because there's nothing that keeps you playing after the first 5ish hours.

I’m really loving Hordes of Hunger so far. The moment-to-moment gameplay is intense and really satisfying. It has enough content for the price we are paying for an indie Early Access game.
I had this one run where I kept getting caught in a chain trap, then immediately shredded by hounds and sniped from across the screen — it was brutal but also kind of funny how fast it all went down. The game definitely has that “just one more run” feel.
Feedback:
- Balancing is needed for the skills because some of the skills are a bit too strong - once you grab certain combos (blood + blue skills), it gets way easier than it should. Still, for an Early Access release, it’s off to a great start.
- Just an idea, like in Vampire Survivors, the enemies get tanky also die swiftly because of the strong skills so even if the player is strong, the player has to be constantly moving around instead of standing idle.. The enemies should get tanky with increased player level. It’d be more fun.

Jokes aside, this game is oddly satisfying to play. The combat is quite fluid and the feedback is good, parry is quite lenient but i think it's just right for a hack and slash. I see the potential of it being one of the titles that define this genre :)
