This is a really lazy remaster unfortunately. The OG game is quite possibly my favorite TSRPG and the ogre battle guy at the top of his game during the Square golden age in the late 90s (you had to be alive then, it was actually insane the streak Square had).
Pros:
+ It has the original version playable with it.
- But they just did a lazy non-integer upscale on it, so it is really rough.
+ Configurable difficulty. The original was pretty steep and unforgiving - it is a nice option for those who aren't veterans of the genre.
Neutral:
= English voices aren't bad but aren't great either. If you have to have voices this is a plus, but if you played the OG like me and like the text the VA isn't good enough to add anything.
= It has some minor censorship where they removed Male/Female... but other than that it isn't really present (not that there was much to censor in the first place).
= The upscaling in the new version is..... OK. The sprites look decent (with a few minor exceptions) but some of the original aesthetic is lost as some of the shadowing and overcast is not present. So, it is a net neutral here for me.
= You can't name the hero in the new version. Not a big deal for me but for roleplayers that's a big deal.
Cons:
- Muffled audio. Supposedly a result of losing the source code, but they could've put in a little bit of effort to fix it; this is $50 after all!
- 2-3 second delay on every enemy attack (in between showing the skill name and the attack start; where it shows the possible damage of the attack). You can skip this by mashing A/confirm but it wasn't in the original and is really annoying. There should REALLY, and I mean REALLY be an option to turn this off, and that's another issue with this is a distinct lack of configurability.
- REALLY lazy standard fonts that if you played the original really detract from the experience. This is one of the first things you will notice and is a huge sign that they didn't even put in the minimum effort to have it look in line with the original's aesthetics.
- New translation removes a lot the "old english" language flair that helped make it distinct.
+ The OG version included has the old english language in it, which is nice.
- Its got that "Electron UI" look for the new UI parts (infamous javascript UI library) that, again, detracts a bit.
- Microstutter in some FMVs. Not a result of framerate it seems to be in the video file itself (lol?).
- You can configure the keyboard... but only 11 keys. Some keys have multiple uses and it is unclear what exactly you are configuring sometimes.
- Also you can't seem to configure keys until AFTER the first battle.
- If you order the Deluxe edition (or preordered) you can change Ramza's suit color. They somehow messed this up by making you SLOWLY cycle through each color and waiting about 3 seconds each time for a flickering light. Also in the suit preview it has some weird shadowing on it.
- OG version only: For some BIZARRE reason they decided to add subtitles to some FMVs. Why is this bizarre? Because they added subtitles to ALL TEXT FMVs. It's subtitles to text. Make it make sense!
- New translation has some odd translation errors. K for C in some places et al

They ruined my favorite game of all time. The "enhanced" edition includes worse UI and menu navigation than the original, annoying and terrible voice acting and the script and dialogue rewrites are awful. Everything special about this game has been stripped away and replaced with soulless modernization of a classic. So far everything about this has failed to live up to being a better experience for veterans of the game. It's bad enough the game was released WITHOUT the War Of The Lions content. Despite the content being missing, they tried to reuse the WOTL dialogue and made it worse.
Battle flow doesn't feel the same as the original or WOTL for that matter. It feels sluggish and weighed down by constant menus and pop ups that are less intuitive than the original. Navigating the menu to view units, change jobs or learn abilities is a massive step back from a game that released in 1997. This seems to be a common trend with modern games, the UI somehow gets worse and worse.
The voice acting is pitiful. WOTL had voice acting where appropriate and it was done well. The voice acting in this is so bad. Voices that don't seem to match the characters at all, and the constant chatter of units during battle is annoying. The sound effects are also revamped and sound even worse than ones from 1997. Attacks when they connect sound like paper ripping, and unit death is a pitiful whimper. I want the meaty sounds of swords connecting and units screaming when they die. The change of the numbers above dead units to little hearts just feels insulting.
I said I was going to pass on this game, and I should have. They ruined a classic. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. It's more of a heartbreak. Something you love and remember fondly has been reanimated as soulless modern slop to appeal to "modern" audiences. The battles are too easy, the flow is wrong, terrible voice acting and script changes with poor sound effects make this a 0/10. Go play the original. Paying $50 to play this "remaster" which is more of a demake with removed content is criminal. This does include the original, but again, $50 for that in 2025 when emulators exist is criminal.
Square has showed that it will stop at nothing to milk every last cent from a classic title and still not deliver a good experience.

TLDR: Buy it on discount in about two years.
If you've played this game before depending on when you played, you'll note that they removed content that was new in the past such as bonus characters and the video you may or may not have liked. The full voiced script is okay. Just okay. Sure, the graphics are updated from 1997, but only by about a decade. Like the video, some of you will like it and some won't. Probably if you've played before you'll fast forward through it and not miss it. No doubt they'll sell those missing pieces as DLC down the line. The game shows its console roots both graphically and in a woefully incomplete control port which is missing view tilt that was included in previous versions. If you played this before, you can imagine how annoying that is already. If you're just joining us now, you'll get it the first time a unit is obscured by terrain and you think "if only I could tilt the view 45 degrees, I could see the whole board". The new tactical view only mitigates this lack a little since after all these years the game still has trouble distinguishing which cell was clicked, even on PC where you really ought to be able to use your mouse to make it very clear, even without the ability to tilt the view. Among the most galling parts is how little of the content is new here. Like Bethesda and Blizzard, they're taking a game that was good and porting it to modern formats while doing the bare minimum to make the game compatible. So, they can just sell you the same game over and over and float on the nostalgia instead of making something new or even doing so much as a good mod group to add to the game. It's lazy and the price you pay ought to reflect that. If you played this before, buy it on sale after they put back all the content they've held back to get the nostalgia fix you crave. If you never played it before, you'll get more if you wait to buy this until it is on sale with all content in a year or two.
Until then, you'll find a version with more content available on mobile devices.

Let me start by saying this, the game is great, if you never played FF Tactics in the PS1 or the PSP version and you want to see why this is one of the best FF ever and one of the best tactics game ever, go for it.
But, the reason im not giving this game a reccomendation, isn't because the game is bad, because again, this is FF Tactics, even if you play the original from the PS1, is still a great game, this remaster could be only the PS1 version but on Steam, and still would be a worth game to get.
No, the reason is, because this port isn't worth it.
First off, the most obvious one, the game not getting a full translation for alot of languages, this is Square Enix we are talking about, not a indie company, if Trails in the Sky Remake can afford the game translated, a game that has 500% more dialogue than this game, there's no excuse, SPECIALLY when you are leaving Spanish translation, when it has been proved again and again than Spain and Latin America are people who puts alot of money on SE Games.
SE is treating this game (and the Octopath 0 Game) like Capcom treats Ace Attorney, like they were "minor" titles than they aren't worth it to translate, and yet i found people who defend this by saying stuff like "english should be second language for everyone by now", no joke.
Second, the WOTL content being cut, i don't care if you think the WOTL content was bad or unnecesary, cut content is cut content, specially when that content had 2 extra classes, the funny thing is, according to the professional reviewers and some reviewers than are REAL FANS of FFT, this game is tied to the WOTL Version, like, this is some kind of Persona 3 situation where there isn't a definitive version to play a game.
And no, sorry, the fact they are adding extra dialogues in this game isn't a justification for WOTL content being missing, SPECIALLY when you are the one who have to trigger those extra dialogues.
Another reason could be the price, because, no, 50 dollars/euros isn't justified for this remaster, but i can give you a better reason of why this port wasn't enough, and that is reason is than this remaster isn't doing enough changes
The UI changes alongside the things they added in the combat (like x2 speed) are great, yes, but... That's it.
The broken classes will still be broken even if they wanted to "rebalance" them, Archer will still be bad, the low faith squad is still gonna stomp the entire game with no effort, the tactician mode than everyone was praising, thinking than this would be the perfect way to play FFT, is just "you do less damage to the enemy, and the enemy does more damage to you", that's it, that's the whole difficulty, is the most boring and lazy thing they could have done. You are essentially playing the FFT version of the PS1, upgraded, yes, but for a price of 50 euros, and knowing than the game isn't justifying the missing WOTL content.
Sure, someone might see the hours i played in this game and say "you didn't even played one hour, what would you know"? But that's the thing, i ALREADY played this game, you wanna know how? Because i already played the PS1 one, and i played the PSP one, i already know how the game is, what the story gonna be, how the game can be broken in several ways, etc etc, this game essentially isn't offering anything new to me, because the only thing the game MIGHT had to grab my attention was the "extra dialogue" they added... But is just dialogue in battles, dialogues you have only to justify the existence of the characters you get in the story because in the endgame they went mute
50 euros for what? To play a slightly upgraded FFT version of the PS1 version with slightly more dialogue, """upgraded""" graphics and a """optimization""" in the battle system that is essentially "everything is the same but everyone sucks less"? Yeah, not good enough for me sadly. I hope people enjoy the game, because is still FFT, but this price for this remaster? No.

Unfortunately, some content is missing, and the game is only playable with an internet connection - I need offline mode! Neither of these issues was mentioned on the product page. Until this issue is resolved, no recommendation can be made.
Despite pre-ordering, I didn't receive a pre-order bonus, and the Digital Deluxe Edition content is missing too! -_-
The optimized Version is an insult to my eyes - even the emulated version on the PPSSPP emulator isn't as pixelated. There's no point playing it; it hurts my eyes. A waste of money that doesn't justify the €50 price tag.
The ring that increases JP is useless because it does NOT stack with the JP Boost effect - but this notice only appears in the game instead of in the Steam Shop.
Not all trophies count. I hired 5 people and still have 0/5 progress! The achievement for thrown items is also still at 0/5 even though more than 10 have been thrown.
In the shop, there's no longer an option to go to the front to quickly select the 99 items; you're forced to scroll from 1 to 99. That's a step backward.

Haven't felt this heartbroken over a game for a long time. First I'm greeted by the fact I can't name the hero. Then the graphics is grainy and outdated, too bad I bought it with greenmangaming or I would have returned it in a heartbeat. And don't let me get started with the less than mediocre English voiceacting... Ugh. And all the missing sounds too, where are the death cries etc?! The Japanese is alot more tolerable so I'll go with that I guess. It wouldn't be so bad if this game was 30 euro/usd but for a full price game this just make it feel nothing else than a cash grab and a spit in the face at original fans.
I guess I don't even need to mention that it's the OG FFT and not WoTL version it's based of. What a rip off. Did they really have to make the game from ground up? Playing it now looks like they was just lying to cover up for the high price tag they set for the game.

If you love DEI you will love this game. Men have best stat growth so make male characters. Thanks to DEI they removed Gender restrictions so go ahead and crossdress (equip) those men with a ribbon to negate All effects that previously was female limited. Zodiac sign compatibility no longer matters so go ahead make them all the same to focus on what you need in growth. Recommend playing in Japanese Language because well activist voice actors are English version decided to remove things. Oh speaking of removing things enjoy most the foul language and harsh language gone or reworded.

For reasons I cannot fathom they have put a screen door like filter over all the battles in the "Enhanced" version of the game. The only thing I can think of is that they put it in place to blend the edges of the sprites into the image and if that is something you value then fair enough. Not being able to toggle the effect off leaves it feeling like I am playing the game through a window screen and it is annoying beyond belief.
Some people might not care about this, but I can't not see it EVERYWHERE and it killed my hype hard.

TL;DR: Overpriced nostalgia bait with very minor improvements Indefensible price, Denuvo, and slimy business practices greatly lower the score. I'm trying not to let nostalgia affect how I judge the remaster. Already refunded but I might buy it again if job cheats/mods are available soon since that's the only thing I really want.Pros:
- Turn order list is very nice to have, and it's color coded for allies/enemies - Some positive changes, like faster charging and better status effect hit chanceMehs:
- Difficulty settings seem nice in theory, but the easy mode is WAY too easy. Only reason I bought the game was to play on the easier difficulty and use roleplaying builds that would not be viable in the base game. But it's like "baby's first TRPG" easy - Fast forward would have been great, but it's very slow and slows down further any time anything happens. You also have to hold it down, which will cramp you badly - Overhead view would have been AMAZING, but you can't do anything when looking at it, making it useless - They never clearly communicated a list of changes from the originalCons:
- Price is extremely high for what it adds - Too difficult to make my controller work. It works fine in other games. Then, you can't change any controls while in game, really sucks - Controls and menus have changed, but for the worse, slowing down combat - Voice acting is rather poor. Most male characters sound like Frodo, all female characters sound screechy. Lines are missing emotions and sometimes have odd inflections - Denuvo. Why? - Deluxe Edition is just a slimy cash grab - Classic mode is pointless due to multiple other ways to play that already - "Improved" graphics are very poor. Looks almost identical to the original. Someone on the forums said the game has a "burlap sack filter" which is accurate - Can't rename Ramza anymore - Can't skip a lot of stuff that I'd like to be able to skip - Can't reclass guest characters and can't control them (I'd heard you could control them, but apparently they were mistaken). I don't even want to make the game easier by reclassing Editing to say I bought again for spell speed and status hit chance changes, as that can open up group compositions and strategies I've not yet used in my thousands of hours with the game. Still wouldn't recommend to the vast majority of people unless they have thousands of hours in already.6 votes funny

The price I paid is not what this game is worth.
No end Game Content. Remember it is a remake, meaning I already played it before, already no the story, and came to the same ending as before, Jut That. It is an ENDING. No reason to play it anymore with No End Game Content and No Multiplayer Content!
They are hiding behind, "We wanted to stay true to the Original"...
Only reason I have not refunded is because I fell asleep while playing it, so I have went over the time period for return!
It's a Remake in 2025 of an JRPG, with No End Game Dungeons or Ability to continue Character Growth and Obtain Better gear, to then try to beat even Harder enemies.
So, once you reach the END it is THE END....
I would have did better watching Old Movies Again, and Again but On My bigger screen tv, Same thing with the same outcome and saved my money!

This is insane to treat your loyal customers as criminals. After a I bought the same game for a third time (PSX, PSP, and now pc).
Shame on Square Enix for releasing a product that barely works and treating their customers with zero respect. Shame on Steam for allowing an incomplete and broken product up on their storefront.
Proceed with caution if you choose to buy

If you look up the definition of "missed opportunity" in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pros: the original game is still great. The characters, writing, music, gameplay are all top tier and worth playing if you haven't before, seriously. This is a once in a lifetime PS1 game, and it is 100% worth your time.
Cons: Square Enix really over-sold this as a "remake". It has voice acting now and a different UI and a couple non-voiced cutscenes. That's it. No new characters, maps, battles, classes, items (except for one sword). Tactician difficulty doesn't change or add anything even remotely interesting to the base game. The sprites and portraits looks really blurry, and the whole thing feels kinda cheap .
Silver lining: modders will do what Square couldn't be bothered to do. They'll add neat stuff and nice portraits and an actual hard mode eventually. For now ... I feel disappointed in this 50$ "remake" and wonder if this was really their best effort.
Wait for a sale, and temper those expectations brochachos.

Still wouldn't recommend to the vast majority of people unless they have thousands of hours in already.6 votes funny

so ive played both the Ps1 version of FFT and the PSP version. while im disappointed that we dont have alot of the added things from WOFL, such as the dark knight class, this is a beautiful recreation of an already beautiful game. the voice acting while sometimes a little wonky, is a welcome addition. i do miss some of the old visual effects, like the old rotating class screen, but all in all this is a damn good rework worth checking out. your just as beautiful as the day i lost you. (which i didnt cus the OG version is siting in my ps3)

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games of all time and Square Enix has been one of favorite developers. I am now hesitant to buy another game from them .
Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games of all time. I purchased this game day one from steam to play on both my Steam Deck and PC. While trying to get the settings to make it work optimally on my Steam Deck, the anti-tamper counter measures have locked me out for 24 hours.

I dont get the hype. I never played a JRPG before until i started Fell Seal a few months ago. Its by far the superior game imho.
The FFT graphics are awful, i immidiately got a headache as my eyes tried to focus the blurry everything. The chars walking in place also feels totally stupid.
